Villa bathroom renovation

Everything visible in a bathroom rests on two things nobody sees: waterproofing and falls. Get those wrong and the stone is irrelevant.

Waterproofing comes first

Wet areas are tanked, tested and only then tiled. A flood test before finishes is the cheapest insurance on the project, and skipping it is the most common reason a bathroom is opened up again within two years.

Falls have to be set so water reaches the drain from every point of the floor, including under a frameless screen where a mistake collects instead of draining.

Stone, fittings and ventilation

Large-format stone reduces joints but demands a flat substrate and careful cutting around drains and niches. Concealed cisterns and mixers need access planned before walls close.

In UAE villas, extraction and dehumidification matter more than in temperate climates: bathrooms that ventilate poorly show it on the joinery within a season.

Where this sits in a villa project

On villas from 700 m² this scope is rarely stand-alone — it shares services, programme and approvals with the rest of the work. See what a full renovation costs and which approvals apply.

Questions

How many bathrooms are usually renovated at once?
On a large villa, most or all of them: services, drainage stacks and access mean doing them in sequence costs more than doing them together.
Is a flood test really necessary?
Yes, and it should be documented. It is the only way to prove the waterproofing worked before it is covered by finishes.
